Job Purpose

Air conditioning technicians may sometimes be referred to as HVACR technicians and are responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. These professionals work in industrial, residential and commercial settings.


Some typical job duties of air conditioning technicians include

  • Reviewing blueprints
  • Installing air conditioning systems
  • Testing systems for proper functioning
  • Performing emergency repairs
  • Maintaining tools
  • Ordering supplies
  • Making routine adjustments to maximize operational efficiency.
  • They may also record data when inspecting systems, such as temperature of equipment, fuel consumption and hours of operation.
  • Recover and properly dispose of refrigerants when servicing air conditioning equipment since refrigerants can be harmful to the environment.
  • They may also sell service contracts to clients in order to ensure long-term client relationships.



Ensure that the installations, maintenance and repair standard is set and that customers are satisfied with service offered by the technician and company alike.


  • Matric
  • Trade Qualification (Air-conditioning and/or Refrigeration technician)
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience within the field
  • Drivers License
  • Product a Knowledge
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge in performing preventive maintenance.
  • Knowledge in safety practices associated with vehicles maintenance
  • Must have excellent time and quality management skills
  • Good command in both Afrikaans and English languages



  • The aircon technician works in a specialized automotive electrical workshop OR on a mining site and wears protective clothing, he also follows safety and protection instructions and rules at work and ensure the proper use of equipment and tools to prevent any possible danger.
  • They may have contact with customers and therefore should provide a professional excellent service. They may be required to travel, work overtime and perform standby duties and are also required to comply with Mine requirements and regulations.
